Der UK Online Pokerrom Genting Poker, welcher zum iPoker Netzwerk gehört, verbreitete kürzlich Angst und Schrecken bei ihren Usern aus bestimmten Ländern, u. a. aus Deutschland und Österreich. Folgende Nachricht wurde übermittelt:
„It is with regret that from 17th October 2011, we will no longer be able to accept any business from your jurisdiction. We request that you log in to your Genting Poker account and withdraw any funds that may be in your account. Please note that as of 17th October 2011 your Genting Poker account will be closed and you will no longer have access to your account. If you do not log in before 17th October 2011 to request a withdrawal of your balance, then you would need to contact our support team by chat or by e-mail to make the request. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and we will update you should the situation in your jurisdiction change.

Im Klartext heisst das also, dass man sich bei Genting Poker aus den Staaten zurückziehen möchte, in denen es keinen einheitlich regulierten Markt für Onlineglücksspiel gibt. Die Spieler aus folgenden Ländern sind deshalb dazu angehalten, ihr Geld bei Genting so bald wie möglich auscashen zu lassen, da der Account ab dem 17. Oktober gesperrt wird:
Österreich, Belgien, Canada, Deutschland, Griechenland, Norwegen, Polen, Portugal, Russland und China.
Für alle, die sich jetzt um Ihren Account im iPoker Netzwerk Sorgen machen, gibt es jedoch Entwarnung: Ein gewisser Tom vom Genting Poker Team bestätigt im 2+2 Forum, dass es sich hierbei um eine Entscheidung von Genting handle, und eben keine, die das ganze Netzwerk betrifft. Eine offizielle Stellungnahme des Netzwerkes gibt es jedoch noch nicht.
Dies bestätigt auch Gary Oakes, seines Zeichens Poker Manager bei Genting: „I can confirm that the decision is one we have taken alone, and I cannot comment on the network as a whole or other rooms.“
Weiter erklärt er den geplanten Rückzug mit der Empfehlung aus der Rechtsabteilung, nachdem die Rechtslage in den betroffenen Ländern genaustens untersucht wurde: „We’ve taken the decision following detailed analysis of the law in those countries (and others) and our legal advice has returned stating that they believe it is illegal to take online poker / casino business from those countries in the current format.“
Da man keine Anteilseigner verärgern möchte, wolle man sich keine rechtlichen Fehltritte leisten: „As a multimational business, with many shareholders and interests primarily in landbased operations, including casinos in highly regulated markets such as Malaysia, Singapore and US, we have to act properly and legally.“
Um möglichen Strafen oder gar einem Black Friday 2 aus dem Weg zu gehen, entscheide man sich daher für die sichere Variante:“ Therefore, when our legal advice tells us it is illegal to take business from a country, we have to listen. This is what gives us confidence that we will not be subject to DoJ style actions, or penalties from regulators.“
Am Ende seines Statements gesteht Oaks ein, dass man sich bei Genting weiter auf das Hauptgeschäft in Großbritannien und das in anderen regulierten Märkten kümmern werde: „As for the comments that it will be ‚the end of Genting‘ or words to that effect. The newly banned countries do not account for a sizable proportion of our revenue or player base, we have always been predominently UK focused, there will be no perceivable drop in our private liquidity. Genting is committed to online gaming in the UK and other legal markets, and is looking at the possibility of entering regulated markets also.“
Warum sich letzten Endes nur Genting Poker und nicht das gesamte iPoker Netzwerk für den Rückzug aus den oben genannten Ländern entscheidet, konnte bis dato noch nicht geklärt werden. Hochgepokert.com wird weiterhin an der Sache dranbleiben und hat bereits eine Anfrage an das iPoker Netzwerk gestellt.
