Wie in jedem Jahr kurz vor Weihnachten, bildet das $10.400 World Poker Tour Five Diamond World Poker Classics Main Event, den krönenden Jahresabschluss. Alles was Rang und Namen in der Poker-Szene hat, findet sich an den Pokertischen im Bellagio Resort & Casino Las Vegas ein.
Am Montag ging es los mit dem Tag 1 und hier durfte man bereits 705 Entries verbuchen. Damit waren es schon acht Starts mehr, als beim Rekord-Event im vergangenen Jahr, als man am Ende auf 1.001 Entries kam. Die Late-Registration war noch für die ersten drei Level am Tag 2 geöffnet, so dass ein neuer Rekord gut möglich war. Gespielt wurde mit einer Startdotation von 40.000 und auf dem Programm standen am Tag 1 acht Level à 60 Minuten. Neben den Big-Names der internationalen Szene wie Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, Eli Elezra, Antonio Esfandiari, Michael Mizrachi oder auch Chris Moorman, waren auch einige deutschsprachige Karten-Cracks angetreten. In Tag 2 schafften es Roland Rokita (AUT), Timo Kamphues (GER), Giuseppe Pantaleo (ITA/GER), Leonard Maue (GER), Mario Mosböck (AUT), Lars Kamphues (GER) und Manig Loeser (GER).
Am Dienstagabend um 21:00 Uhr (MEZ) nahmen dann 417 Spieler den Tag 2 in Angriff. Auf dem Programm standen fünf Level à 90 Minuten. Bis zum Ende der Late-Registration kamen noch 330 Starts zusammen und so durfte man mit 1.035 Entries einen neuen Rekord verbuchen. Damit geht es um ein Preisgeld in Höhe von $10.039.500, welches unter den besten 130 aufgeteilt wird. Der Min-Cash bringt $18.530 und auf den Champion warten $1.694.995 sowie eine Wild Card für das WPT Tournament of Champions. Bis zum Ende des Tages mussten sich von unseren Jungs leider noch Leonard Maue (GER) und Lars Kamphues (GER) verabschieden. Am Ende durften noch 224 Poker-Cracks ihre Chips für Tag 3 eintüten. Den Chiplead holte sich T.K. Miles (USA) mit 668.500 (229,5 Big Blinds). Einen super Tag erwische auch der Österreicher Roland Rokita, der auf Rang 6 mit 553.500 (184,5 Big Blinds) übernachten darf. Außerdem sind noch Timo Kamphues (GER- 58 Big Blinds), Giuseppe Pantaleo (ITA/GER – 125 Big Blinds), Manig Loeser (GER – 30,5 Big Blinds) und Mario Mosböck (AUT – 32,5 Big Blinds) mit im Rennen.
Der Tag 3 startet am Mittwoch um 21:00 Uhr (MEZ) im Level 14 bei Blinds 1.500/3.000 (Big Blind Ante). Die Level-Zeiten betragen 90 Minuten. Der Average liegt aktuell bei 184.821 (61,5 Big Blinds). Sobald man kurz vor der Bubble ist, wird das Turnier mit einer 30 Sekunden Action Clock gespielt. Der Champion wird erst im Finale am 21. Dezember ermittelt. Der Final Table wird dann exklusive auf PokerGo übertragen.
